Vermillion pencil on 8.5X11 Ivory Cartridge Paper.

Drawing the figure will always identify an area where one needs to improve whether it is line, tone, perspective or composition. It is a constant process of self-correction and improvement. That is the challenge that drives me to seek out a class every week.

This was a terrific model because of his sinewy form and experienced character. a personal favorite & longer pose from life drawing class.

Vermillion pencil on 8.5X11 Ivory Cartridge Paper.

Been attending The Keyhole Sessions lately as a supplement to my regular life drawing course. Their tagline is "The raciest life-drawing class you'll ever experience." boy, do they ever mean it. The models are partly costumed and partly sassy. Anyone interested in an alternative to life drawing and live in the Toronto area come on down.

I'll be there sketchbook and pencil ready to record all the debauchery Keyhole Sessions has to offer.

Brown pencil on 9X12 93lb. Heavyweight Drawing Paper.

Mike is one of my favorite artists. Every time I look through his sketchbook it's a real treat, he is always very creative and inventive with his designs. I did this doodle based on a drawing Mike did on his blog. I invite you all to check it out sometime.

Brown pencil on 9X12 93lb. Heavyweight Drawing Paper.

Sometimes when I sit down to draw in my sketchbook I have no idea what I am going to do or I only have a faint impression of what I would like to do. There are those other times when I know exactly what I want and I don't even need to think about it. It's just reflex. Those are the fun drawings.

This is one of those reflex drawings. Personally I feel that drawing, the act, should just be reflex to the expression anyways so I'm always satisfied when it happens.

Brown pencil & terra cotta on 9X12 93lb. Heavyweight Drawing Paper.

Despite what the majority of sketches on the blog might say, I like to work with col erase pencils. I use a warm brown spectrum made up of brown, tuscan red, vermilion & terra cotta because I like the impression they create on the natural white paper I draw on.

I've been working on my caricaturing skill by doodling the people I see on TV. My efforts are to improve capturing an accurate likeness quickly. This is my take on Janet Wright who plays Emma Leroy on CTV's Corner Gas which is absolutely awesome.

Sketched while watching The Phantom Menace. Strange creatures and humanoids are always refreshing to draw. Since people have no preconceptions about them I feel more freedom to draw whatever.

HB pencil on 9X12 65lb. Sketchbook Bond.

This past Sunday marked the first time I attended Bobby Chiu's Subway Sketch Group over in Toronto. It was loads of fun and every one was pretty friendly. I even spoke with Bobby for a bit but I was nervous in doing so, to be honest.

I definitely intend to make this a weekly ritual. Especially since my friends and I are committed to a post-ritual curry from Sushi-on-bloor =9

Since I don't own an ipod or like to play video games for very long, I carry my sketchbook around for entertainment. I usually sit perched in a discreet corner and sketch away. These were done on Mississauga transit.

As a side note, I think I need a new scanner or need to press down harder when I draw. It's hard for the scan to capture all the little nuances of the original =<

A little study of a couple of boxers. I've been doing a few of those in my sketchbook. I always liked the intensity and ferocity of boxers but I've haven't been able to capture those qualities. I'll keep at it till I got it.

I think that's part of the gift and curse of an artist, pursuing that which is intangible, trying to give form to the formless. It's oddly satisfying!
